Decades ago, Zisha cups were basically accessories to teapots. Most were mass-produced and generic, wholesaling for a dollar or two. People just wanted a few cups to go with their teapot—to make a nice set, something presentable as a gift.

That's changed. Thanks to clay painters and carving artisans, finely made Yixing cups have been fully embraced by the market. They've become a category of their own.
